Subcutaneous products |
There are currently three subcutaneous products available in New Zealand. Please check administration instructions before use.
- Evogam®
a 16% solution prepared from New Zealand donors' plasma, is being phased out and replaced with HizentraNZ.
- HizentraNZ
a 20% solution, is prepared from New Zealand donors' plasma by the same manufacturer as Evogam, CSL Behring. This is the new default subcut immunoglobulin product.
- Hizentra
As New Zealand is not entirely self-sufficient for subcutaneous immunglobulin, we also have Hizentra, manufactured in exactly the same way as HizentraNZ but from European and American donor plasma.

Intravenous products |
There are several different intravenous products available in New Zealand. The different products have different rates for administration. Please check before use.
- Intragam®P
a 6% solution prepared from New Zealand donors' plasma. IntragamP is being phased out and replaced nationally with 10% IVIG products. The phase is staged. See this document for a timeline.
- PrivigenNZ
a 10% solution prepared from New Zealand donor plasma and manufactured by the same company that made IntragamP, CSL Behring. ProvigenNZ is being rolled out nationally and replaces IntragamP.
- Privigen
a 10% solution manufactured in exactly the same way and the same plant as as PrivigenNZ but from European and American donor plasma. New Zealand is approximately 90% self-sufficient as a country for IVIG. For the remainder, we have Privigen.
- Gamunex
a 10% IVIG solution manufactured by Grifols. This is only for patients who cannot tolerate Privigen or PrivigenNZ. We have a small stock of Gamunex. This is available only after discussion with a New Zealand Transfusion Medicine Specialist.

Intramuscular product |
The only non-specific intramuscular product is Normal Immunoglobulin, prepared from New Zealand donors' plasma. This is usually for hepatitis A and measles prophylaxis but is occasionally
used as a replacement immunoglobulin for hypogammaglobulinaemia.
|
Hyperimmune products |
Hyperimmune immunoglobulins are also pooled immunoglobulin concentrates but with a known level of activity against a named virus or protein. Hyperimmune immunoglobulins prepared from New Zealand donors' plasma are Anti-D, Hepatitis B Immunoglobulin, Tetanus Immunoglobulin and Zoster Immunoglobulin. Other hyperimmune immunoglobulins are available as Section 29 products.
